Identified and bred in the 1990's from an all green sport growing in a field of heading variegated type \"Variegata di Chioggia\" (similar to \"Lusia\") Bianco's green round loose heads fade to a blanched golden heart and are among the \u003cem\u003eleast\u003c\/em\u003e bitter members of the family. Like Chioggia types it has a diffuse ribbing system to the leaves rather than a thick central midrib making for a tender leaf for raw salads and preparations and great for sandwiches.
